Ubud is the place to go. This is where all the people who want to escape from the madness of Kuta, Sanur sterility and cultural isolation Nusa Dua will find themselves.
Ubud is the heart of Bali. It is not perfect but it has charm. It also has pride, and the people of Ubud is more careful than most to maintain the rural atmosphere that so often purged when the twentieth century filled the front-on.
Relax in Ubud, stay cool, and most importantly, learn to say the name: It OO-bood, not YOU, bud or bud-Ah!
Accommodations in Ubud generally offers better value than Kuta, Nusa Dua and Sanur although usually lower than standard international hotel in the south - with a few exceptions which are well known. Ubud Homestay many comfortable and relaxed and Inns will however, give the feel of Balinese culture that is high-rise hotel will never be able to meet. Of course, those who want to explore the countryside from the luxurious base will find several options, among them some of the newest and best island hotel.
The main street, Jl Raya and especially Monkey Forest Road is a traditional place to find cheap places to stay, but recently many new low cost and medium-popping Jl Jl Hanuman and Bhima.
Do not discount the laneways which connect the main streets, as many smaller-run homestay family and Losman can be found on these streets. Places a small and simple is often the best value available.
Further from the city center, near the river and so on, is more upscale bungalows, cottages and hotels in Campuan, which generally provide a quieter more relaxing stay, but also can be left feeling isolated - especially at meal times and at night.
Ubud.
There are many restaurants scattered around Ubud, and is usually concentrated in the vicinity of the popular accommodations. They are on the main road (Road) and at Hanuman Road are generally very popular with budget travelers, because they are fairly cheap, and they serve good food. Monkey Forest road has many fine restaurants, despite efforts to encourage more upscale area has seen an increase in prices in recent times.
There are several restaurants and even more expensive, but very good at Campuan area west of the village center, but is likely to meet, especially for tourists who stay in bungalow Campuan the more isolated and expensive and the hotel. Ubud famous pub is located just above the bridge Campuan.
Ubud has several money changers and banks, although there may be no ATM. Fees are generally located along the Milky Way and Jalan Monkey Forest.
A medical clinic and pharmacy can be found on Jalan Monkey Forest, and the hospital is on Jalan Raya Ubud.
International telephone services are widely available, and most are located along Highway (near the central market).
Bemo station located near the market, spread along the Highway, near the corner of Jalan Monkey Forest. Service to run south through Denpasar Bali especially (Rp1, 200 approx.), And often set off during the day (each time a minivan full of passengers). A short walk to local villages, and longer runs to the north and east also depart from the station bemo.
The taxi meter is also a service to Ubud, but obviously costs more than it bemo.
Frist shuttle bus operates to many parts of Bali and beyond, and the pickup should be set at the time of ticket purchase (many agents sell tickets Perama). Arrival by Perama bus is for their office, which is a little uncomfortable located far from the city center on Jalan Hanuman. Most of the bus was greeted by the operator Inns will show the photo room and on the level of agreement for your business. If you agree to see their rooms, they may be able to help you to carry your bags (do not abuse their labor).
Ubud is a paradise for shoppers. Most of the main streets and market stalls selling objects of interest for visitors, and a variety of crafts represented unimaginable. Gold, silver, jewelry, wood, cloth, clothing, ceramics, batik, painting, metals, antiques and many other products that are sold almost everywhere. Try your luck at the fresh market, or look into the boutique and shop for fixed prices are still comparatively cheap. Many stores will assist with packaging and shipping of your home (be very careful to urge surface transport - air is very expensive!).
The book is widely available in Ubud, in a used bookstore a few dotted around the main streets. Please note that prices are not too low, but will be ignored if you have books to trade.
Local highlights include many cultural events staged in Ubud. Although most do to entertain tourists rather than for genuine festive occasions, they are generally well presented and worth seeing. Fire dance, monkey dance and the Legong dance is a real crowd to please, and of course, the Ramayana is a cultural highlight. Many travel agents and travel agents can provide a program, and book seats for the show. Expect to pay from Rp. 5,000 to 10,000 (which may include transportation to the nearest village where performances are held). Always talk with other travelers for advice about the perfomances are not to be missed.
There are many museums and art galleries in and around Ubud, many artists and community art shows featuring local works. Styles and media are very diverse, ranging from traditional to modern, ceramic painting, carving, sculpture, batik, weaving and photography etc.
